There’s an old menswear rule that says you should never wear a belt with a vest/waistcoat. I’m not all hung up about
following rules and instead wear what I think looks best but this is a rule that I for the most part agree with. Unless
you're wearing denim then a belt will normally look sloppy. There’s just too much material around the waist area and by
eliminating the belt the look will be much cleaner. When I’m shopping for pants or having them made I always make
sure that they hug me tight enough so I don’t need a belt. However sometimes our bodies change and we may lose
a few pounds making some kind of support necessary.
If you’re ever in the position where you want to wear a vest but your pants are slightly to big around the waist then I’ve
got the perfect trick for you. All you’ve got to do is wear a pair or suspenders or braces under your vest. The vest hides
the straps and no one will ever know the difference plus you won’t have to worry all day about about your pants falling
down. This trick definitely works and has saved me from the dreaded belt with vest look a couple of times.
If you’ve got pants with sewn in suspender buttons then that’s great and will work better but the clip on style (which I
normally am against) will do just fine. I hope you liked this little tip and you can look forward to a few more tricks that I’ve
learned along the way. Thanks for reading.
