C For Club Tie [Wednesday Menswear Terms]

club tie (n) - a necktie worn by members of a club and bearing the club’s colors,
usually in stripe or the club emblem.

Club ties were originally created as a way to prove your membership to an exclusive club or group. The most common ones have a repeating pattern of the clubs emblem but this tradition has started to die and club ties are now mostly found in the fashion world. They have that preppy look that screams Ivy League University. If you’re a student then embrace that look and pair your tie with colored chinos and oxford cloth button downs. If you work in an office setting you can still wear them but because of the rich colors and bold print I would reserve them for the weekends.

White Sneakers With White Pants

[Blazer & Pants] Zara [Shirt] Club Monaco [Tie] Drakes [Pocket Square] Profuomo

If there’s one thing I love doing it’s experimenting with clothing and right now I’ve been doing it more than ever before. I recently moved back to the states after nearly 5 years of living in Europe and most of my clothes are boxed up waiting to load a cargo ship to the USA. So all I have is 2 suitcases mixed with summer and fall clothes to get me through the next month or two. I’ve found myself styling pieces in ways I never would before. White sneakers and white pants is probably something I wouldn’t have worn 6 months ago and I definitely wouldn’t have thought of pairing it with a blazer and tie but with limited choices I gave the look a try and it turned into a favorite of mine. I’ve actually tried out the combo a few times over the last 2 weeks and thought it’s looked great worn casually as well. So for any one who says they don’t have enough clothes or they are tired of what they have then just spend a few hours in front of the mirror and try on things that you normally wouldn’t. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a new go to combo like I did. Thanks for reading.

Denim Jacket Inspiration

Shop all the jackets @Mango

I don’t wear denim jackets that often but with fall approaching I’ve been looking into alternatives for the blazer. It’s definitely a piece I’ll be adding to my wardrobe so I thought I’d share with you some of the inspiration that’s got me wanting to give them a try. First I love how they can be dressed up and pretty much worn in place of a blazer. Sure it’s more casual but it can still look dapper. I also think they look great with wool trousers so they’ll be perfect when the cold weather comes rolling in. For the dressed up look I would stay away from anything too washed and faded. You can add color and pattern with your shirt and tie to really stand out.

Denim jackets are mostly associated with street wear but there are some other cool ways to dress down your jacket without going full Kanye. I love the idea of layering an oversized denim jacket over a cotton suit. It sure is a great way to get a few more wears out of your cotton blazers before the temperatures start to really drop. The denim on denim look is something that always seems to be trending and can look great if the colors of denim are contrasting enough. Try mixing a dark blue or black denim jacket with white jeans or go with dark jeans and a light washed jacket. You can have so much fun experimenting with denim jackets so I would consider them a must have this fall.

B For Black Tie [Wednesday Menswear Terms]

black tie (adj.) - requiring that guests wear semiformal attire, especially that men wear black bow ties with tuxedos or dinner jackets.

Today’s menswear word of the day is black tie. There are many definitions for it but they all refer to men wearing evening wear such as tuxedos and black bow ties, normally to a party or event. While I agree that black tie is evening wear I disagree that one must wear a black bow tie. Times have changed and classical menswear is being reinvented and modernized. Because of this I truly believe that black tie can mean anything you want it to be. You can ditch the bow tie and opt for a skinny necktie or even a silk scarf.  As for the tuxedo you can be as creative as you want. Try out different patterned or colored dinner jackets and you can always have a bit of fun with your shoes.  So next time you receive an invitation requiring you to wear black tie don’t think a black bow tie is the only option.

Why You Should Live in NYC

New York City may not be for everyone but I’ve always heard it’s a city you’ve got to live in at least once in your life and after 3 weeks here I know exactly why. You see New York really has everything. If you can dream it then you can find it in this city that never sleeps. When you’re here you’ll see things that you’ve never seen before. Things that you never knew you wanted but now you think you need. I’m not only talking about the latest designer clothes or newest gadgets but I’m referring more to a certain lifestyle.

If you’re anything like me (which if you’re reading this blog then you probably are) then you won’t want to be waiting on hot subway platforms, you won’t want to be google mapping your way through this city and thinking of what to cook every night. You’ll want to live like a successful New Yorker and Uber around and experience all the amazing restaurants NY has to offer. You’ll want your friendly doorman to sign for your packages and hail your taxi. You see it’s not about the material things that you have but more about how you are treated. In NYC you can live like a king without actually being a king.

Some people may say they don’t need this and be satisfied with their lives which is fine but I know many of you want more in your life than what you’ve got. You may be internally motivated and working hard to make your dreams become reality but most of us need a push or two. Nothing will push you more than seeing others living the life you want. You may feel like shit for a while but there’s nowhere to go but up. So if your thinking of moving to NYC then stop thinking about it and just do it. You will struggle at first and things will be hard but it’s an experience that’ll really help you out in the long run. I mean how can 8.5 million people all be wrong?

Weekend Casual [Chinos And Blazer]

[Blazer] Zara [Chinos] H&M [Shirt] 7 For All Mankind [Loafers] Doucals

Sunday’s should be all about relaxing but in today’s world there are no days off. We all work hard to improve our lives and a day off is simply not an option. I tend to dress a bit more casually on the weekends but try to be ready for whatever the day may bring. For this I always go with cotton chinos and a blazer or sports coat . The chinos scream weekend but a button up shirt and blazer dress things up a bit. Loafers are a given and a white pocket square and bit of arm candy are the only accessories you’ll need. I hope you like this casual look.

Wearing White After Labor Day

Labor day has come and gone and now it’s time for all men to pack away their white pants and cream blazers, right?

Wrong! This hundred year long rule that says "no white after Labor Day" is still hung on to by some who just can’t seem

to break away from what their grandfathers taught them but I’m here to say that white in the autumn and even winter is

a big yes. If you don't believe me then have a look at these photos and see for yourself.

When wearing white in the colder months I always think that white denim is the easiest to pull off. It has a bit of texture

and weight to it but can still be dressed up or down in so many ways. I love the combination of white jeans with different

earthy tones such as green and brown. These colors combined together make white appear much less summery and

you’ll fit right in with changing of the leaves.

Late Summer Suiting

[Pants] Suitsupply [Shirt] Dsquared2 [Blazer & Shoes] Zara [Tie] Bottega Veneta [Sunglasses] Trussardi

Days are getting shorter and a bit colder but I’ll still be wearing summer clothes until the weather forces me to do otherwise. I wear white pants a lot. I would probably wear them everyday if I could but luckily I found a new color that I’ve fallen in love with. These burgundy pants from Suitsupply just seem to go with everything and can be styled in so many ways. I never thought I would say red pants are versatile but these truly are and I highly suggest you picking up a pair to end your summer and begin your fall in style. I’ll soon be styling them in a more casual and fall like way. You guys know I’m a huge fan of the sockless look so even if it’s September I’ll still be rocking the look as much as I can. Thanks as always for stopping by.

A For Accessory [Wednesday Menswear Terms]

accessory (n) - an article or set of articles of dress, as gloves, earrings, or a scarf that adds completeness, convenience, attractiveness, etc., to one’s basic outfit.

Every Wednesday I’ll be defining a new word that’s important to know in the menswear world. Today I’m starting with the letter A for accessory. We all know what accessories are but you may not know the importance of them in an outfit. Take my outfit for example. I kept things very simple with a blue blazer and white shirt but the accessories make it much more stylish. A pop of color in the red tie and hints of brown in the watch and pocket square help pull it all together. You don’t need to go overboard but try adding a few accessories to every outfit and you’ll see the difference. Shop some of my favorites below.
